Blind is a poem written by Tahys Rodriguez. Tahys is a theatre maker and poet based in Brighton. She aims to create work that people can relate to, as words and storytelling are the most human experience.
Blind
Cigarettes and regrets
Our nicotine laced love
Tucked away from the outside world
Our love hangs in the balance like your shitty blind
The light tumbles through
Making for a picturesque moment
But not the moment we need
Sleep is calling but the sun pierces through
You put up a towel in a haphazard attempt to block out the sun
For a moment it works
The cinematographer’s dream
When the light is warm and fuzzy
Where you could just reach out your hand and grab it
Where it hangs on your eyelashes like tears
The making of every romantic scene
It’s ephemeral
The towel crashes down
The hazy light disappears
The moment is gone
The reality of being tired and too warm dawns
Maybe we’re like the makeshift curtain
Only fleetingly functioning before it’s fucked
